Last week I had an awesome time doing fieldwork in Sweden. Spotting, sketching and studying birds at temperatures to -26°C. With the help of interesting locals we had the chance to come face to face with some rare species as the Pygmee Owl, Northern Hawk Owl, Grey-headed Woodpecker and Arctic redpoll. Seeing them in their natural habitat helps to capture the essence of the birds in a drawing. At one location the songbirds even came to take a look at my sketches. The week flew by and it seemed like we where always in a rush to be somewhere when we just spotted a new species.

Together with three friends — Axel Goossens, Bastien Genbrugge and Maxim Piessen — I participated at the GoPro Nature Award 2014. Although we joined mostly for the fun of making the video, we made it as runner-up!
We also made a short behind the scenes video to show how we made all the shots, often without having the proper gear at hands.
Last weekend our video was shown on big screen at the Namur Nature Film Festival together with the other finalists.
